PRIVACY AND FACEBOOK

Are you safe while using Facebook
  • Facebook as a website is a safe place.
  •  There is built-in security that helps to protect you and your information. One primary level of security that Facebook uses is called SSL (Secure Socket Layer).
  • This type of security encrypts (protects) any data transmitted while using Facebook, from login credentials to chat conversations
IF FACEBOOK IS SAFE THEN WHAT IS THIS

What do I do if someone is threatening, harassing or attacking me on Facebook?
  • You can do this on Facebook
  • Facebook provides these tools to help you deal with threats and harassment. Depending on the severity of the situation:
  • End friendship with the person . Only your Facebook friends can contact you via Facebook chat or post on your timeline.
  • The person to block . This will prevent that person from adding you as a friend and seeing what you share on your timeline.
  • Report that person or all inappropriate things they post .
If someone is harassing you by sending a message on Facebook
  • The best protection against a threat is to identify it and know how to stop it. Here are some tips:
  • do not respond. Most threats are given to get feedback, so do not react to them.
  • Do not keep it secret. Contact a trusted person, such as a close friend, family member, counselor or teacher, who will provide the help and support you need.
  • Document and save. If someone has posted something that you do not like, you can take a print or screenshot of it, so that you can share it with someone you trust later on.
  • If you feel an immediate danger, contact your local authorities.
