What is credit or debit card ?

■    A credit or debit card is basically a plastic card issued by the bank and it holds a 16 digit number which include our identity expiration dates and personal identification number pin codes

■    Debit cards allow bank customers to spend money by drawing on funds they have deposited at the bank.

■   Credit cards allow consumers to borrow money from the card issuer up to a certain limit in order to purchase items or withdraw cash

Are they safe to use ?

■    Credit card is basically safe to use the use of credit card is on rise and credit card assure the user about the safety norms and their complete privacy

■    Credit cards are more safer than the debit cards

■    Credit and debit cards both are safe till you do not share their pin OTP and other sensitive details with anyone

How to use them properly ?

■        Keep your card with you always.

■        Change your PIN regularly.

■        Do not share your PIN with anyone.

■        Check alerts and your monthly Credit Card statement carefully.

■        Avoid using your card on suspicious websites or apps

  

Rate of online payment and card related frauds in India 

          Just 3 months between October 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019, saw cyber criminals make away with nearly Rs 128 crore in frauds relating to debit and credit cards and net banking.

Scheduled banks reported six cases every minute, to record a whopping 21,041 cases in the quarter ending December 31.

According to data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the highest number of such frauds in the said period have been reported in the ATM/debit card category.

This year record in India

■ 11,058 ATM/debit card cases involving Rs 94.5 crore.

■ 6,117 credit card frauds involving Rs 19.7 crore,

■ 3,866 net banking frauds involving Rs 13.6 crore
